Line imaging has several advantages over 2D sensors: high frame rate, high dynamic range, high fill-factor with additional on-chip computation, low cost beyond the visible spectrum, and high energy efficiency when used with line illumination. We demonstrate our approach in two applications: (a) fast passive imaging of sparse light sources like street lamps, headlights at night and LED-based motion capture, and (b) structured light 3D scanning with line illumination and line sensing. We show several extensions of our system to improve the accuracy of the 2D positioning and expand the effective field of view. We derive a detailed image formation model and a learning-based algorithm for 2D position estimation. We exploit this principle to recover 2D and even 3D positions from only line images. When light passes through a diffraction grating, it disperses as a function of wavelength. We present a novel computational imaging principle that combines diffractive optics with line (1D) sensing. ![]() ![]() ![]() The intense taste of authentic Italian chilis pairs well with a bold glass of red wine.ġ00% Italian hot chili peppers, sunflower seed oil, extra virgin olive oil, salt, vinegar, and natural herbs. The majority of domestic incidents have used and continue to use commercial explosives, smokeless powder, black powder, flash powder, and pyrotechnic fillers as a main charge likely due to their ease of acquisition (e.g., purchasing 50 pounds of black powder requires no federal license or permit). The main charge of an IED contains the largest amount of explosive a description of the main charge used in each attack is shown in Table 2-1, along with the estimated mass. 34- 36 This incident was chosen as a logical starting point as it was the first major attack in the United States that employed precursor chemicals to produce the IED’s main charge, specifically, ammonium nitrate (AN) mixed with fuel oil (AN/FO). The committee produced a list of selected explosives incidents, both realized and thwarted, starting with the 1970 Sterling Hall Bombing at the University of Wisconsin ( Table 2-1). PAST AND RECENT ATTACKS INVOLVING EXPLOSIVES The Group A precursor chemicals appear to pose the most immediate threat in terms of their potential for use in improvised explosive devices (IEDs), though shifts in bomb makers’ tactics could elevate the status of Group B and C chemicals without warning. To prioritize those chemicals, the committee compiled a long list of precursor chemicals then it established a short list of chemicals of particular concern and lastly, it applied a set of criteria to the chemicals on the short list and, according to those criteria, it ranked the chemicals in three separate groups: A, B, and C. The number of precursor chemicals that can be used to make homemade explosives (HMEs) is large. Precursor Chemicals Used to Make Homemade Explosives ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Inspect the crimp (the book I link below shows what various crimps should look like), and pull gently on the wire, holding the terminal in your other hand. Then squeeze until the crimper completely closes and the ratchet releases so you can open it again. Next, put the stripped wire into the terminal, making sure it's at the right depth and that the insulation ends at the right spot. My basic technique is to put the terminal into the die and squeeze the crimper just enough to hold it in place. A good crimp cold welds the wire to the terminal and should require pounds of force (at least a firm pull) before the wire pulls out. It tells me that the die you have is not made for that terminal. If you find that you're having to "pre-crimp" anything before you can get the terminal into the die, then that's a problem. That said, I have had fairly good luck with some cheap crimpers, but it's hit and miss. Crimp dies have to be made specifically for the terminal to work ideally and wire length and wire insulation thickness are critical. Any recent advice on that one.Ĭrimping is a far more specialized and precise operation than it appears at first glance.įirst, the problem could be that your crimpers aren't very good. Then again, a very tiny difference may do the trick. It looks very much like the one I have but it is different. The question is: Do I have the right connectors and crimper? Is there a tip that someone might provide to help me do this better?īefore posting a similar topics panel was displayed showing this tool: Preciva Dupont Crimping Tool AWG26-18 That was much easier, but probably more expensive than what I have now. We had to use a specific wire striper to get the striped length exactly right. The crimpers we used there were such that it was held flat, the pin/socket dropped into a round hole in the center, the wire inserted, and when squeezed, the crimper came in from four sides and crimped both the insulation and the conductor. It covered soldering, crimping, wire-wrapping and other such skills. It does not get to the point where that little plastic finger clicks down and makes it stay in.Ī long time ago, while on active duty, I attended a technician’s school run by NASA people. And then, one of the connectors did not seat in the connector, meaning it can easily be pulled out. That means I must use the pliers again to post crimp and be sure the connector will not fall off. Then after crimping, I had wires slip out. When bringing the wire, connector, and crimper all together I have to use small needle nose pliers to pre-crimp the little fingers on to the insulator before I can get the wire and socket/pin into the crimper. The problem is certainly in part me and the tremors in my hands, but, I might have the wrong parts. The two pictures show the box of connectors I purchased and the crimper ordered at the same time. I am building some wiring for an Arduino UNO, probably the same for all of the Arduino products. ![]() ![]() The company was started in 1951 by a Girl Scouts leader interested in lighter foods to take camping. With millions of people around the world riveted to TV footage of astronauts landing on the Moon, interest in the space program grew enormously in the late 1960s and early ’70s. ![]() Not only does it help preserve nutritional value and extend shelf life, but removing the water also reduces the weight significantly, which is always an important consideration in space travel. In the decades since, NASA has continued to improve the cuisine it sends for its astronauts-among other advances, astronauts on the International Space Station have access to a refrigerator for fresh fruits, as well as an oven to better heat up their meals-but freeze-drying continues to play a role. ![]() The new gravies were encased in a special plastic container that made it easier to mix in the water. NASA funded research at the Army Natick Laboratories, which was able to develop special gravies that, when freeze-dried, could be reconstituted with 80-degree water in just five minutes. Previously, reconstituting dried food required boiling (or near-boiling) water, and most foods needed a good 20 minutes to prepare. Among other requirements, the team was looking for “food that could be reconstituted in cold (approximately 80 ☏) water,” according to the 1971 report, in just 10 minutes or less. The astronauts complained, and for the Gemini missions, NASA went back to work. Not only were the foods unappetizing, but they were hard to rehydrate and prone to sending crumbs floating into the spacecraft’s instruments. In the earliest human missions, the Mercury flights, astronauts ate bite-sized cubes, freeze-dried powders, and semi-liquids squeezed out of aluminum tubes like toothpaste. None of these methods of preserving is new, but NASA has contributed to and stimulated advances in this area,” explains a 1971 report prepared for the Agency’s Technology Utilization Office. “Of these, the most prominent are: dehydration, freeze-drying, intermediate moisture, pasteurization by irradiation, and nitrogen packing. NASA funded research on an array of possible food preservation techniques. Food needed to be shelf-stable and long lasting, and it needed to pack small and light and be easy to prepare. In the early days of the space program, one of the many problems to solve was feeding the astronauts during their time away from Earth. ![]() But first, astronauts brought it on trips into orbit-and NASA helped create a novelty ice cream treat to connect young museum visitors to the wonder of space exploration. Traditional offline particle size analyzers are used in the quality control laboratory to measure particle properties with accuracy however, care must be taken to prepare the sample to allow for a consistent measurement. ![]() Particle size and count, as well as chemical composition, are important to characterize effectively for the successful development, transfer and operation of processes in numerous industries. Understanding how process parameters influence key transformations, such as nucleation, growth and breakage, allows scientists to develop and manufacture crystals that will have the desired attributes and be efficient to bring to market. In a pharmaceutical compound, bioavailability and efficacy are often related to particle size with smaller particles frequently desired for their enhanced solubility and dissolution characteristics.Ĭrystal size distribution can be optimized and controlled by carefully choosing the correct crystallization conditions and process parameters.
